Creating dramatic irony for comedy.

I think it’s dramatic irony. One character thinks they are dying and the reader should suspect the person isn’t but has some degree of sympathy.

When Sully thought Boo was getting ground up by a machine in the first Monsters Inc. as an example. How do you let your readers know this is a comedy, it is going to be okay?
