My criticism of overly generic loglines in the other thread inspired an idea. I could have hijacked that thread, but I decided to start a new one. What if you wrote a logline so generic, it could represent a whole genre? For example:
Fantasy: To save the world, a chosen one from obscure origins must unlock his / her latent powers.
Romance: Boy meets girl.
This is not pure snark. Loglines such as these could be used as templates for real loglines in that genre. For example, I think maybe the romance template works better for my WIP than the templates in the other thread: Kind-hearted engineer meets his brother's rejected mail-order bride.
Can anybody come up with some representative loglines for other genres? Mystery? Science fiction? Chick lit?
